JOANN, Lidl Stores Coming To Sugarland Crossing In Sterling

STERLING, VA — The Sugarland Crossing shopping center is adding new anchor tenants this year, according to a news release from the property. A Lidl grocery store, a JOANN Fabric and Crafts location, and a Tropical Smoothie Cafe will open at the shopping center in 2021.

The Lidl location and the Tropical Smoothie Cafe are scheduled to open by the spring, according to the news release. The JOANN store is scheduled to open in the storefront previously occupied by Home Vivant Furniture in the summer of 2021.

Lidl is an international grocery chain, with an American headquarters in Arlington. They currently operate more than 20 stores in the Washington D.C., area, including locations in Woodbridge, Dumfries, and Springfield. They sell name-brand items, private label offerings, and European specialties, in addition to fresh fruit and vegetables.

Jon Shartar is the senior vice president at Combined Properties, who signed the new tenants at Sugarland Crossing. "We are thrilled to welcome first-class retailers like JOANN and Lidl to Sugarland Crossing," Shartar said. "These stores will enhance the diversity of our offerings and strengthen the center overall as grocery-anchored centers have remained strong through the pandemic. Both stores serve everyday needs and will be invaluable to our customers."

The JOANN location will occupy a 35,000 square foot storefront. The Lidl will replace Shoppers as the center's grocery anchor tenant in a 26,000 square foot space, the news release said.
