Junior Girl Scout Troop Creates Recycling Information Card
Girl Scout troop 70042 completes a Take Action Project to share an easy reference guide for recycling.
Junior Girl Scout troop 70042 completed a 'Take Action Project,' which is a project that provides lasting change for the community. The girls decided to create an easy to read, convenient information card to help clarify recycling rules for those area residents who use Patriot Disposal as their recycling company. They printed a number of cards to distribute locally in their community. They are also sharing the information cards via social media.
In researching the project, the girls realized that in the community, people are eager to help and recycle, but few people know the rules of what we can place in the recycling bin. The girls learned that if recyclables picked up by the truck are overly contaminated with non-recyclables, sorting is not cost-efficient and the whole load will end up in the landfill.
By referencing the information card, the troop is hoping the right materials get placed in the recycling bin, and the contaminants are left out. When in doubt - avoid contamination - and throw it out.

The girls hope you find the guide useful. And, you'll be glad to know that those Girl Scout cookie boxes are recyclable, but not the plastic sleeves inside them.
