Jury Duty Scam Resurfaces in Sterling

Two Sterling residents received calls claiming they failed to show up for jury duty and were told to send money and personal information.

The Loudoun County sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a jury duty scam after two Sterling residents lodged complaints Monday.

The two victims reportedly received calls from a caller claiming to be with the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office. In both instances, the caller stated he was a detective and the residents had failed to show up for jury duty.

The first resident, who was contacted Monday, Oct. 20 around 4:30 p.m., did not provide the caller with any money or personal information.

The second resident, who was contacted around 6:25 p.m. later that day, was told a warrant had been issued for their arrest. The resident complied with requests to obtain money cards and provided information to the caller, later realizing the call was a scam.
