Labor Day 2019: What's Open, What's Closed In Ashburn

Train routes, schools and government offices will be impacted by the 2019 Labor Day holiday weekend in and around Ashburn.

ASHBURN, VA — Labor Day represents one of the busier weekends of the summer, if not the entire year. It's one final chance for tourists to fill up the coffers, from the Outer Banks in North Carolina to Ocean City in Maryland. But for city and county governments, schools, and some businesses, Labor Day is a chance to hit the pause button.

Here are the openings and closings to know for Labor Day weekend in Ashburn.

Loudoun County Offices: All county offices will be closed Sept. 2.

County Courts: All Loudoun County courts will be closed Sept. 2.

State Courts: Circuit Court, General District Court and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court are closed on Sept. 2.

Post Offices: Closed on Sept. 2.

Loudoun County Transit: On Friday, Aug. 30, the Premium Commuter and Metro Connection Bus Services will operate on a normal schedule in the morning but will operate on an Early Out Schedule in the afternoon and evening. View the Premium Commuter Bus Early Out Schedule and the Metro Connection Early Out Schedule. There will be no commuter bus services on Sept. 2.

Metrorail: On Sept. 2, the Metro system will be open 8 a.m.-11 p.m. and operate on a Sunday schedule. Parking will be free at all Metro parking facilities, and off-peak fares will be in effect all day.

The six Yellow and Blue Line Metro stations south of Reagan National Airport are closed and are scheduled to reopen on Monday, Sept. 9. Until then, free shuttle buses are serving the closed stations. For more information, visit www.wmata.com/service/rail/PlatformProject.

Metrobus: Buses will operate on a Sunday schedule on Sept. 2. See bus timetables.

Virginia Railway Express: VRE does not operate on Sept. 2. For more information, visit www.vre.org.

Libraries: All Loudoun County Public Library branches are closed Sept. 2.

Outdoor Pools: On Labor Day, Franklin Park Pool in Purcellville will be open 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. or dusk, and the Lovettsville Community Center Pool will be open 4:30-7 p.m.

Recreation and Community Centers: The Claude Moore and Dulles South Recreation Centers will be open normal hours from 5 a.m. to 9:15 p.m.; however, the competition pool and basketball gymnasium at Claude Moore remain closed for maintenance until Monday, Sept. 9.

When Loudoun County Public Schools have a scheduled day off, the leisure pool features at both facilities follow weekend hours of 11 a.m. to 7:45 p.m. Slide hours are subject to change. Please call ahead for the day's hours.

Historic Sites and Museums: The Loudoun County Visitor's Center is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 2.

Landfill/Recycling: The Loudoun County Landfill and Recycling Drop-Off Center will be closed Sept. 2.

Trash Collection: Loudoun County does not offer curbside trash pickup. Check with your local provider about trash collection.

Grocery Stores: Harris Teeter will be open 6 a.m. to midnight, and the pharmacy hours are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Giant Food will be open 6 a.m. to midnight. Whole Foods is open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Trader Joe's is open 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
