Loudoun Commuters Urged to Try Transit Options

Prizes will be awarded during 'Try Transit Week' on 9/19-9/23, during which commuters are urged to try a form of public transportation.

LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — Loudoun County commuters are encouraged to pledge to try a form of transit during the eighth statewide “Try Transit Week in Virginia,” on Sept. 19 - 23, 2016, according to a Loudoun County Government announcement.

Participants can pledge to try transit at www.trytransitweek.org and enter to win a year of free transit service from the Virginia transit operator of their choice, along with a pair of round-trip tickets aboard Amtrak’s Northeast Regional train. Pledges will be accepted through Sept. 23, 2016.

In addition, anyone who lives or works in Loudoun, and who pledges to try transit, is eligible for prizes from Loudoun County Transit. Two winners will each receive a SmarTrip card worth $50 for Loudoun County’s Commuter Bus Service. Two other winners will each receive local bus passes for Loudoun County’s Local Bus Service worth $20.

Try Transit Week is designed to encourage Virginians to reduce their use of single-occupancy vehicles and try a form of public transportation such as vanpool, bus, rail, or ferry.

Loudoun County offers a variety of transit services, including the Commuter Bus Service, which provides service to Rosslyn, the Pentagon, Crystal City & Washington, D.C.; the Metro Connection Bus Service, which provides service from Loudoun County to the Wiehle-Reston East and West Falls Church Metro stations; the local, fixed-route bus service, and paratransit bus service. Loudoun County also offers commuters help in forming vanpools, carpools and other alternatives to the single-car commute.
