Loudoun County Hazardous Waste Collection Planned This Weekend
The event will be held 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at 46150 Loudoun Park Ln. in Sterling.
LEESBURG, VA — Loudoun County residents are invited to drop off household hazardous waste free of charge at the county's next collection event, planned this Saturday. The event is scheduled 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at 46150 Loudoun Park Ln. in Sterling.
Typical household hazardous waste includes fluorescent light bulbs, dry-cell batteries, oil-based paint, stain or varnish, paint thinner, mineral spirits, metal polish, rust remover, wood strippers and preservatives, furniture polish, waxes, sealants and solvents, bleach, pesticides, insecticides, herbicides, fertilizer and pool chemicals.
Other items accepted include muriatic acid, sulfuric acid, ammonia, mercury, mercury thermometers and thermostats, gasoline, expired fuel, auto cleaners and flushes, brake and transmission fluid, windshield washer fluid, fire extinguishers, moth balls, flea and tick products, photographic chemicals and other hobby chemicals.

Anyone who has an item not on the list is encouraged to call the Loudoun County Waste Management Division at 703-771-5500 to see if the item can be accepted or if an alternate disposal option is required.
Here are a few items that will not be accepted during the event:

- Ammunition, explosives, fireworks, and gun powder
- Electronics
- Medical waste and medications
The limit per household is 15 gallons of liquid waste (container size should exceed five gallons) and 40 pounds of solid waste. Participants may be requested to provide proof of Loudoun County residency such as a driver's license or utility bill.
