Loudoun Extends Deadline For Parents To Pick Type Of Instruction

Loudoun County schools extended the deadline to Wednesday for parents to choose the type of instruction their children will receive.

LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — Loudoun County Public Schools extended the deadline to Wednesday for parents to register their choice for the type of instruction their students will receive in the new school year. The school system said the deadline was extended to give parents more time to evaluate the learning options for their children.

Parents were originally required to indicate their choice for each of their children using the ParentVUE system by Monday at 8 a.m. Parents now have until Wednesday at 8 a.m. to make their choice.

On June 29, the Loudoun County School Board approved a resolution endorsing two options for how children can receive instruction for the upcoming school year. These options are:

  • A hybrid model of learning for students, which means a child will attend school in person for two days each week and will participate in distance learning the other three days of the week.
  • 100-percent distance learning, in which a child will not attend school in person.

Teachers will return in late August for three weeks of training and planning. The school board approved a delay in the class start date to Sept. 8, the Tuesday after Labor Day, to provide more time for preparation.

If Virginia is forced to return to phase two or phase one of its coronavirus reopening plan, the school system may decide to change its plans by not offering the hybrid model.

When picking one of the two instruction choices, parents should log into ParentVUE, select the "Student Info" menu item, and click on the "Edit Information" button. Using the "Distance Learning Option" drop-down menu, the parent should select their desired option and scroll down to click on the "save changes" button. Parents will repeat these steps for each of their children enrolled in Loudoun County schools.

The school system has created a LCPS Return to School 2020 website with information about the upcoming school year.
