Loudoun Ranks 2nd in Northern Va. for On-Time Graduation

13 of Loudoun's 14 high schools had a graduation rate at or above the state average. Find out how Loudoun ranks statewide.

LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — The Class of 2016 in Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) had an On-Time Graduation Rate of 95.9 percent, according to a LCPS announcement.

LCPS's rate was 4.6 points above the state average of 91.3 percent, as reported by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE). The On-Time Graduation Rate calculates the percentage of students who complete high school within four years.

LCPS ranked 13th out of Virginia’s 132 school divisions in on-time graduation.

Among the Northern Virginia divisions, only Falls Church City had a higher graduation rate (99.5 percent).

Thirteen of Loudoun’s 14 high schools with a graduating class (92.9 percent) had a graduation rate at or above the state average. Of Virginia’s 323 high schools with graduating classes, 187 (57.9 percent) achieved graduation rates higher than the state rate and 136 were lower.

On-time Graduation Rates for LCPS high schools with a graduating class were:

  • Briar Woods High School, 98.3 percent
  • Broad Run High School, 97.6 percent
  • Dominion High School, 93.9 percent
  • Freedom High School, 96.8 percent
  • Heritage High School, 94.0 percent
  • John Champe High School, 97.5 percent
  • Loudoun County High School, 97.3 percent
  • Loudoun Valley High School, 99.0 percent
  • Park View High School, 83.8 percent
  • Potomac Falls High School, 95.1 percent
  • Rock Ridge High School, 98.5 percent
  • Stone Bridge High School, 98.9 percent
  • Tuscarora High School, 94.0 percent
  • Woodgrove High School, 97.3 percent

Statewide, 51.7 percent of students earned an Advanced Studies Diploma. Of Loudoun’s 5,120 graduates, 3,655 (71.4 percent) achieved the rigorous standards for an Advanced Studies Diploma in 2016.

Among the state-defined student subgroups, LCPS had a higher graduation rate than the state average in 12 of the 13 categories:

  • Male: state % graduated: 89.3; LCPS % graduated: 94.9

  • White: state % graduated: 93.9; LCPS % graduated: 98.0
  • Asian: state % graduated: 96.6; LCPS % graduated: 98.4
  • American Indian: state % graduated: 85.3; LCPS % graduated: 75.0
  • Two or more races: state % graduated: 92.8; LCPS % graduated: 96.3
  • Students with Disabilities: state % graduated: 87.9; LCPS % graduated: 94.7
  • Economically Disadvantaged: state % graduated: 87.5; LCPS % graduated: 89.3
  • Limited English Proficient: state % graduated: 67.5; LCPS % graduated: 69.4
  • Homeless: state % graduated: 78.2; LCPS % graduated: 80.0

    Virginia’s statewide dropout rate was 5.3 percent for the Class of 2016. Loudoun’s dropout rate was lower at 2.6 percent, according to LCPS.
