LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — The Loudoun County Health Department is encouraging all residents over the age of 16 to preregister for the coronavirus vaccine. The health department said it is preparing to move to Phase 2 of the state's vaccine rollout plan later this month.

The county is now administering shots for people in Phase 1c who registered for the coronavirus vaccine on March 31. Officials said they will be ready to move to Phase 2 no later than April 18.

Dr. David Goodfriend is Loudoun County's health director. "We have made significant progress in offering appointments to people in the Phase 1c priority group that opened up earlier this week and as a result, we will be ready to advance to Phase 2 soon," he said in a news release. "When we’re able to offer vaccination appointments to everyone, we will offer appointments to people in Phase 2 in the order in which pre-registration forms were received."

This week, the county has vaccinated about 4,000 people per day at their clinic at Dulles Town Center. Last week, about 1,500 people were added to the waitlist each day, according to the county's vaccine dashboard.

"The waitlist of people in the Phase 1 priority groups is nearly exhausted," Dr. Goodfriend said. "Which is why we’re encouraging everyone else to get in line for a vaccine now by submitting a pre-registration form."

To register for the vaccine, residents should sign up for the state's preregistration list. Anyone can preregister for the vaccine, regardless of their current eligibility. The Loudoun County Health Department pulls from the state's list to schedule vaccine appointments. Residents can also use the VaccineFinder tool online to find appointments at nearby pharmacies that are offering the shot.

People without internet access can call the state's vaccine hotline at 877-829-4682.
