Loudoun School System Alerts Parents To Pick Type Of Instruction

Parents of Loudoun County Public School students have until next Monday morning to choose the type of instruction for their children.

LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — Parents of Loudoun County Public School students have until next Monday morning to choose the type of instruction for their children. The selection will be a binding choice for the first semester of the 2020-2021 school year.

Parents must indicate their choice for each of their children using the ParentVUE system by July 13 at 8 a.m. Information on how to make the selection is available on the Loudoun County Public School ParentVue website.

LCPS is hosting a virtual town hall meeting on Wednesday from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. to help families learn more about the choices. The public can watch a livestream of the town hall on LCPS.org, Comcast channel 18, or Verizon FIOS channel 43. Questions are being accepted in advance of the event by going online and submitting the question.

Last Monday, the Loudoun County School Board approved a resolution endorsing two options for how children can receive instruction for the upcoming school year. These options are:

  • A hybrid model of learning for students, which means a child will attend school in person for two days each week and will participate in distance learning the other three days of the week.
  • 100-percent distance learning, in which a child will not attend school in person.

Once the participation numbers are known, the school system said it will take four weeks to develop class schedules and three more weeks to schedule the bus rides that will allow for students to physical distance during the trips to school.

Teachers will return in late August for three weeks of training and planning. The school board approved a delay in the class start date to Sept. 8, the Tuesday after Labor Day, to provide more time for preparation.

If Virginia is forced to return to phase two or phase one of its coronavirus reopening plan, the school system may decide to change its plans by not offering the hybrid model.

When picking one of the two instruction choices, parents should log into ParentVUE, select the “Student Info” menu item, and click on the “Edit Information” button. Using the “Distance Learning Option” drop-down menu, the parent should select their desired option and scroll down to click on the “save changes” button. Parents will repeat these steps for each of their children enrolled in Loudoun County schools.

The school system has created a LCPS Return to School 2020 website with information about the upcoming school year.
