Loudoun Schools Present Redskins Foundation with Legacy Award

The atmosphere was a bright one on Friday morning as the Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) officials honored their very first recipient of the district's new Legacy Award for outstanding contributions to local students.

The recipient of the inaugural award was none other than the Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation.

The presentation took place at the National Conference Center in Leesburg Friday morning.

LCPS officials said they chose the popular team's charitable foundation as the recipient because the team has gone "above and beyond" over the past several years to help better the lives and educations of Loudoun County students.

In addition to helping provide a new turf for the sports fields at Park View High School in Sterling, the team's foundation has donated school supplies and supported reading and physical activity programs such as the Redskins Read Program and the Fuel Up to Play 60 program.

Friday's event included a breakfast, the presentation of the award, speeches by officials, and even the raffling off of Redskins team memorabilia.
