
Luella K. Ellingwood passed away on Wednesday January 21, 2015. She was 82 years old. She was born December 13, 1932, the daughter of Joseph Leonard and Luella (Long) Kania. Luella was married to Capt. Arthur R. Ellingwood Jr., USN (Ret.). They were married 47 years when he passed away February 22, 2007. Throughout her husband’s career, the family lived in many different locations around the country, as well as overseas in Italy.
After settling in Fairfax county in 1974, Luella pursued a variety of volunteer work. She was a docent with the Smithsonian at the Museum of American History. She also volunteered with the League of Women Voters and the Fairfax County Housing Coalition. A long time resident of Fairfax Station, she moved to Ashby Ponds in Ashburn, Virginia in 2012. Luella was an avid reader and enjoyed working crossword puzzles.
Luella is survived by her son, David and his wife, Laura of Potomac Falls, VA.; her twin grandsons Ray and Frank; her sister Betty Jones (Charlie) of Norfolk, VA.; her sisters in law Jackie Lang of Colorado Springs, CO, and Ruth Casper of Vallejo, CA; and her nephews and niece, Alfred Lang, Wes Jones, Ken Casper and Susan Casper. She was predeceased by her brother, Henry Hayes Jr.

A graveside service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery Friday April 10, 2015 at 9am.
