In Memoriam: William Allen Robinson, 87

The family of William Allen Robinson will be holding a celebration of life service at Millington United Methodist Church on Dec. 12, 2018.

William Allen Robinson, originally from Millington, MD passed Away in a Dunedin FL nursing home November 26th at age 87.

Affectionately known as; “Will”, “Robby”, “Mickey Mouse Grandpa” and “Big Al” at various points in his life, he brought laughs and smiles to those he touched.

Al was born in Millington to (Mayor) Noland Robinson and Ruby King Robinson. The second of five children. He was preceded in death by his brother Gilbert.

Leaving for Salisbury State College, he ran Cross Country in addition to his studies. As the Korean War broke out, he and a roommate left school to join the U.S. Navy. An avid hunter, he easily earned Marksmanship medals in boot camp. His duty assignments included Bainbridge, Philadelphia, San Francisco before he was selected to serve at the US Navy Academy in Annapolis. Promotions saw him completing Officer Candidate School in Providence and moving to the Pentagon and BUPERS in Arlington, VA. Additional Ribbons and Medals earned included the National Defense Service Medal and the Navy Good Conduct Medal. During his Time with Naval District Washington, he returned to school at the University of MD College Park.

As his Naval career headed toward retirement, he began a very successful career as a Realtor in Virginia with Dove Realty, Oxford Properties and part owner of Dulles Properties. He progressed from Salesman to Sales Manager and Broker. Earning his GRI (Graduate of the Realtor Institute) and CRS (Certified Residential Specialist) designations before moving into Commercial Real Estate.

He was named President of the Loudoun Board of Realtors after serving in several board leadership positions. Committed to high Ethical standards he was also active in the Virginia Association of Realtors on the state level.

Successfully coaching in the Lower Loudoun Little League, brought him many years of joy, as did gardening. Committed to his community, He was active in the Lions Club; the Free Masons, the Committee for Dulles and Methodist Men’s club among other groups.

Active in politics, he served as head of the Loudoun Republican committee after an unsuccessful run for the county Board of Supervisors.

An early supporter of Congressman Frank Wolf (R-10), he served on his Naval Academy Selection committee. He also ran for the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors in 1976.

After his first divorce, he moved to FL and repeated his successful Real Estate career with several agencies and new homes builders. Retiring, he moved to the mountains of NC for a few years before returning to the Gulf coast of FL.

He is grieved by his surviving sister Betty Ann Thorpe of Ocean City, NJ; Brothers Carville Robinson and Former Mayor Ed Robinson of Millington. His cousin Dr. Richard Passwater of NC. His one daughter, Denise of San Luis Obispo, CA; two sons Paul and Mark both of VA. Several Grandchildren including Justin of VA and Noland (Jenna) Robinson of Brandon, FL and several Great Grandchildren. Several awesome nephews and nieces miss him as well.

His legacy includes instilling a strong interest in history, honesty, integrity, and humor in his three children, who miss him. He put smiles on many faces and helped many on the road to homeownership.

The family will be holding a celebration of life service at the Millington United Methodist Church on Wednesday December 12th 2018.
