Motorist Update: Russell Branch Pkwy Link Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Held

LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — Loudoun County officials celebrated the completion of the segment of Russell Branch Parkway during a ribbon cutting ceremony along the road on Sept. 7. The recently-opened segment of the parkway between Ashburn Road and Ashburn Village Boulevard was identified as a “missing link" in the county’s road network in the Eastern Loudoun Transportation Study. While this road segment opened to the public several weeks ago in August, yesterday was the first opportunity to celebrate the achievement, according to the Loudoun County Government.

Guests at the ribbon cutting ceremony included Board of Supervisors Chair Phyllis Randall, Vice Chair/Ashburn Supervisor Ralph Buona, Broad Run Supervisor Ron Myer, Assistant County Administrator John Sandy, and Director of Transportation and Capital Infrastructure Joe Kroboth.

In addition to providing increased connectivity between Ashburn Village Boulevard and Ashburn Road, the newly constructed road segment serves as a parallel roadway for Route 7, which will help to relieve traffic congestion in these areas. The project consists of design and construction of:

• Approximately 1,800 linear feet of a four-lane, median-divided roadway;
• Trail and sidewalk improvements;
• A crosswalk; and
• A traffic signal modification at the intersection of Russell Branch Parkway and Ashburn Village Boulevard.

This project was funded and administered by Loudoun County. The total cost of the project was $6.4 million, which was funded through local and gas taxes and cash proffers. William A Hazel, Inc. was awarded the contract for construction in January 2015.
