LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA—Although it's about a year away from completion, the new Loudoun County Animal Services facility is about to formally introduced to the community. We're talking about a groundbreaking ceremony 10 a.m. Thursday, May 30, in the area of 42152 Claudia Drive in Leesburg (at the intersection of Crosstrail Boulevard and Kincaid Boulevard).

The 25,000-square foot facility includes an animal shelter, which will replace the existing shelter in Waterford. It'll serve as the headquarters of LCAS and will provide many of the same services as the current animal shelter: pet adoptions, animal welfare law enforcement, housing of stray, abandoned, or relinquished companion animals, dog license sales, volunteer opportunities, dispatch services, educational programs, pet retention counseling and a veterinary clinic for shelter pets.

It's expected to be completed in the summer of 2020.
