Northern Virginia Weather: Cold Start To Week But Changes Coming

STERLING, VA—For most folks in the Northern Virginia area, at least those north of Fredericksburg, the snowfall experienced by much of the state Sunday was a no-show here. So the week ahead offers a cleanup-free stretch with lots of sun paired with cooler-than-normal temperatures. That's the word from the National Weather and other area forecasting outlets.

Monday will be clear and cold, and after that, according to the Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang, "high pressure brings mostly sunny skies (and) highs in the low to mid-40s. Tuesday and Wednesday night lows fall back to the mid-20s to near 30."

Not until Thursday night is rain (snow?) a possibility, but the chances are only around 30 percent. Meanwhile, here are snowfall measurements around Virginia, per the Richmond Times-Dispatch. Here's the detailed forecast from the National Weather Service's local bureau in Sterling:

Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 40. North wind 7 to 9 mph.

Monday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 26. North wind 3 to 7 mph.

Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 41. Northwest wind 3 to 5 mph.

Tuesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 29. Northwest wind 3 to 5 mph.

Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 42.

Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 30.

Thursday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 42.

Thursday Night: A chance of rain after 8pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 35. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Friday: Rain likely, mainly after 8am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 51. Chance of precipitation is 70%.
