Northern Virginia Weather: Timeline For Weekend's Wintry Mix
Roadways may be treacherous through the weekend, according to the latest forecast from the National Weather Service.

STERLING, VA — It may have been a perfect Thursday, but the hottest temperatures we'll see on Friday came with the sunrise. And the colder temps are expected to be joined by sleet, freezing rain and snow late Friday, with the wintry mix possibly lingering into Sunday morning, according to the National Weather Service.
This is still not looking like a winter storm, with the current forecast suggesting no snow accumulation across most of Northern Virginia. The threat for the region — mainly in areas along and north of Interstate 66 — will be ice on roadways and sidewalks, possibly causing slippery conditions through the weekend.
The timeline puts rain and sleet in the area starting after midnight, shifting to freezing rain and sleet after 4 a.m. Saturday and throughout the day.
