The annual Bank of America Student Leaders® program was established in 2004 to provide promising young community-minded leaders with training and exposure via paid summer internships and a culminating week-long summit in Washington, D.C.

Each summer, a select group of approximately 300 high school seniors and juniors takes part in the Bank of America Student Leaders® program, in which community-minded participants from across the United States receive leadership training and assist non-profit organizations in their home communities.

In 2021, the only Loudoun County student to be selected to the prestigious program is Kaycee Portillo-Sorto, a senior at Park View High School in Sterling.

Portillo-Sorto was chosen from among a large national pool of applicants because of her prolific volunteerism. She frequently volunteers with the clothing bank of the Loudoun-based Women Giving Back organization, and spends time reading to kids in local elementary schools. She also serves as secretary and treasurer of Park View's student council.

A staunch advocate for voting and voter's rights, Portillo-Sorto has served as a page during local elections and has put in dozens of hours performing canvassing and phone-banking duties to encourage voter participation.

The Bank of America Student Leaders® program lasts all summer and culminates in a week-long leadership summit, normally held in Washington, D.C. The 2020 summit was held virtually due to COVID-19 restrictions. The format for the 2021 summit is to be determined.
