Pedestrian Died After Struck Crossing Street: LCSO

Loudoun County Sheriff's Office is investigating a crash that killed a pedestrian who was crossing a street in Sterling.

LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — A Washington, D.C. man, Andres Zambrana, 65, died after being struck by a vehicle while crossing the street in Sterling on Oct. 9, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office (LCSO).

Deputies say that the crash occurred around 2:25 a.m. in the area of Sterling Boulevard and E. Beech Road.

The preliminary investigation by members of the LCSO Crash Reconstruction Unit indicate that Zambrana was crossing from west to east in the crosswalk when he was struck by a vehicle proceeding northbound on Sterling Boulevard.

According to an independent witness the driver of the vehicle had a green signal light at the time of the crash.

The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and called 9-1-1.

Zambrana was transported to a local hospital and where he lost his life a short time later.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor with the pedestrian, according to the LCSO. The case will remain under review for charges until toxicology results return and the results of the investigation reviewed with the Loudoun County Commonwealth Attorney’s Office to determine any possible charges.
