Rally to Repair Historic Ashburn Colored School Racist Vandalism Set for Oct. 9

Loudoun's Republican and Democratic parties issued a joint statement condemning the racist vandalism to the historic Ashburn Colored School.

LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — The Loudoun County Republican (LCRC) and Democratic (LCDC) Committees issued a statement today jointly condemning the recent racist vandalism on Friday, October 1 to the historic Ashburn Colored School in Ashburn.

The one-room schoolhouse operated as a public school for African Americans from 1892 until the 1950's. Currently under renovation, the building was found vandalized early Saturday, Oct. 1. Images of the vandalism shows swastikas, genitals and other vulgar images and comments.

Working together, the LCDC and LCRC are offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and indictment of the responsible parties. Combined with the Loudoun Crime Solvers’ reward, it brings the total reward amount to $2,000.

Each committee is also calling on their members to join the local chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) in a rally, Sunday, October 9th from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. to paint the building and remove swastikas and “white power” slurs from this important civil rights landmark, located at 20579 Ashburn Road, Ashburn.

Will Estrada, Chair of the LCRC, said, “Racism is a vile sin against God and man. It has no place in our community, or anywhere for that matter. Marty Martinez, Chair of the LCDC, also added, “This is a horrible act and we stand united with the NAACP, the LCRC and the leaders of our community in showing the rest of the country that racism is not tolerated here.”
