Scammer Flees after Tricking Cell Phone Buyer: LCSO
A Sterling resident was scammed into believing he was purchasing 4 iPhones but instead bought 4 boxes full of Play-Doh.

LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — A Sterling resident was scammed into believing he was purchasing four iPhones but instead bought boxes full of Play-Doh, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office (LCSO).
Deputies say that the victim reported that they made contact with the suspect via an application called “Offer Up.”
The suspect met the victim on Jan. 18 at 8 a.m. in Sterling and and provided the victim with four iPhone boxes; however, he said that they could not be opened until he received the cash.

The victim gave the suspect the cash and the suspect fled.
The victim opened the boxes and discovered they were filled with Play-Doh.

The male was described as a Black male, 20-25 years of age, approximately 5’5-5’8, and a thin build with short black hair. The suspect was wearing possibly a brown colored hooded sweatshirt.
This case is pending, according to the LCSO.
