When provided a report of an LCPS student or employee testing positive for the coronavirus, the Loudoun County Health Department determines the need and extent of a contact investigation based on Virginia Department of Health policies. When the LCHD conducts contact investigations, its practice is to reach out to all "close contacts" of people who have tested positive

The VDH defines close contacts as people who have been within 6 feet of a person who tests positive for the virus, for 15 minutes or more, starting from 48 hours before symptom onset.

The Virginia High School League, the governing body of high school sports in Virginia, said it will decide the fate of the 2020 fall sports season on July 27. Among the changes expected to high school sports in Loudoun County and elsewhere in Virginia due to the coronavirus are no high school football and other high contact sports this fall.

Meanwhile, the Loudoun County School Board passed a resolution last month supporting a hybrid learning model for Loudoun County Public School students and teachers in the fall.

The 100-percent distance learning option for students in the Loudoun County Public Schools system was chosen by the parents of just over 50 percent of the students in the school system, according to preliminary results released Friday by LCPS. The hybrid model of learning was chosen by the parents of about 39 percent of the students who attend Loudoun schools.

Among teachers, 3,708, or 54.2 percent, indicated a preference for the hybrid learning model, and 3,128, or 45.8 percent, indicated a preference for the distance learning model.

A total of 82,847 students are registered to attend LCPS schools for the 2020-2021 school year.
