Loudoun Sheriff's Office Moving, LCPS Official Leaving, Back to School Savings

1. The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office will close Friday, Aug. 2, and reopen Wednesday, Aug. 7, once the agency has moved to its new headquarters on 803 Sycolin Road in Leesburg.

Residents in need of fingerprinting services or background checks during that time should go to the Eastern Loudoun Station at 46620 E Frederick Dr. in Sterling; or to the Dulles South Public Safety Center at 25216 Loudoun County Pkwy, Chantilly.

Residents who need copies of accident or incident reports will have to get them before Friday or starting Aug. 7.

Over the next few weeks, members of the Criminal Investigations Division and the Operational Support Division will also be moving to the new headquarters from their current office on Catoctin Circle.

The move will not affect other law enforcement services. 

2. Angela Gwynne-Atwater, current director of curriculum and instruction for Loudoun County Public Schools, is leaving to serve as assistant superintendent for Fairfax County Public Schools’ Cluster 6 beginning Aug. 1.

Cluster 6 includes the Lake Braddock Secondary School, Robinson Secondary School, and West Springfield High School pyramids.

3. Loudoun County Zoning Administration staff has scheduled a second public input/outreach meeting related to a proposal to allow the construction of public schools in most zoning districts as by-right uses, rather than as special exception uses. Special exception uses require a separate public process for approval. The hearing is set for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 31 at Woodgrove High School, 36811 Allder School Road, in Purcellville.

4. Virginia Back-to-School sales tax holiday kicks off this weekend. Items exempt from sales tax during this weekend include most articles of clothing and footwear priced at $100 or less each, and school or office supplies that cost $20 or less per item. Read more right here.

5. Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell said Tuesday he plans to return thousands of dollars in gifts he and his family received from Star Scientific CEO Jonnie Williams.
