Sheriff's Office Investigating Report of Sexual Assault on W&OD Trail
Police presence will be increased along the trail as authorities investigate the report.
The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office said it will be increasing police presence around the W&OD Trail after a woman reported being sexually assaulted on the trail recently.
The Sheriff's Office is investigating the woman's report that she was walking on the trail just east of Sterling Boulevard around 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 17 when she was approached by two unknown men.
The two suspects allegedly approached her from a wooded area and pulled at her and her clothing, before physically assaulting her. When a bicyclist rode by, the woman said the two men fled.

The first suspect is described as a black man, about 6'2" tall with a thin build and black curly hair. He was reportedly wearing a black shirt.
The second suspect was described as a black man that was slightly shorter than the other man, with a thin build and black, curly hair. He was reportedly wearing a gray shirt.

Anyone who thinks they may have information regarding the identities of the suspects or the assault is asked to contact Detective P. Beaver of the Loudoun County Sherrif's Office's Criminal Investigations Division at 703-777-0475.
The Sheriff's Office also offered the following safety tips for those who like to use the trail:
- Always stay alert and be aware of your surroundings. Don’t wear earphones.
- Walk, run or bike with a partner or group.
- Let someone know when you are on the trail, what your planned route is, and when you expect to return.
- Walk, run or bike when the path or trail is likely to have a higher volume of foot traffic.
- Avoid using paths or trails when it is dark outside.
- Carry a cell phone.
Authorities are also reminding residents that the trail is officially closed after dark for safety, and that anyone on the trail after dark is considered to be trespassing.
