Social Media Threats Prompt Loudoun Deputies to Patrol Schools

After reports of non-specific social media threats, Loudoun County Deputies will be patrolling in the area of schools as a precaution.

LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA- Loudoun County Sheriff's Deputies will be conducting directed patrols in the area of schools in the County because of posts on social media making non-specific threats to some local some local schools, according to a Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) announcement.

Although there have been no credible threats at this time, the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) will be conducting the patrols as a precaution in the area of schools. All public schools are also assigned a school resource officer with deputies stationed at middle and high schools.

The social media messages come on the heels of similar postings in the region referencing people dressed as clowns and threats of violence at area schools.

Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious activity immediately by calling 703-777-1021.

Residents are also reminded that wearing a mask in public is prohibited for any person over 16 years of age. The provision does not apply to wearing traditional holiday costumes as well as other exemptions, according to LCPS.
