A 25-year-old Sterling man received felony charges after speeding away from a traffic stop and through spike strips Wednesday morning.

A Sterling driver with a revoked license who sped away from a traffic stop and drove through a spike strip into the wrong travel lane early Wednesday morning has been charged with felony eluding and possession of marijuana.

A deputy initiated a traffic stop on a speeding vehicle Wednesday morning at 1:19 a.m. The deputy activated emergency equipment and the vehicle made a right onto westbound Route 7 from Cascades Parkway.

The driver sped through a red traffic signal at the intersection of CountrySide Boulevard and continued on Algonkian Parkway before returning to Route 7. Fairfax County Police were notified and initiated a precautionary traffic stop on Route 7 as officials laid spike strips near Georgetown Pike. The vehicle struck the spike strips but continued into the wrong lane. The vehicle returned to the correct lane and stopped after becoming inoperable.
