Sterling Foundation Membership Drive Needs Community Support

Sterling Park does not have a homeowners association to maintain the grass, trees and bushes along Sterling Boulevard.

Thank you to our members and volunteers for supporting us through a challenging year. Despite the restrictions of 2020, we were able to accomplish the following:

  • Plant 400 seedlings at the Butterfly Garden
  • Install “Welcome to Sterling Park” signs at both ends of the boulevard
  • Award five high school scholarships
  • And, keep up with the mowing on Sterling Blvd despite an especially rainy season!

Sadly, the stream clean up, SterlingFest, small fundraisers and some litter pick ups were missed last year.

Sterling Park does not have a homeowners association to maintain the grass, trees and bushes along Sterling Boulevard. The boulevard is a VDOT maintained road and they will only mow up to twice a year when the grass interferes with the sight of drivers. It takes an average of 12 mowings a year to make the boulevard median look well maintained, which can cost between $18,000 and $28,000. We are grateful for the wise financial planning of our current and former treasurers who made sure we had reserved funds set aside for difficult years such as 2020.

Our reserves are low and we need your help in keeping up with the mowing and scholarship goals for 2021. The Sterling Foundation began 30 years ago to maintain Sterling Boulevard. How do we get our funding?

  • SterlingFest is our biggest fundraiser, providing nearly half that budget
  • A quarter of the budget is raised from smaller fundraisers
  • Another quarter comes from membership dues and donations.
  • Annual membership is $20 per individual/family, $35 per civic organization and $75 per business.

We are grateful for every member who joins us. If you are already a member, please tell your neighbors about us so they can also join the Sterling Foundation. If you are not yet a member, please join. Your contribution will enable us to keep our community looking great for all. If you want to do more, consider scheduling a monthly donation (such as $20/month) through subscription payment. Several folks have done this and it has been a wonderful encouragement!

To our local businesses, please consider sponsoring a mowing at $2,000 or a half mowing at $1,000. Gratitude would be shown in social media shout outs and placing your business signs along Sterling Boulevard. Your generosity will be appreciated!
