Stone Bridge High School Crew Medals at Virginia State Championships, Qualifying for SRAA Nationals
Stone Bridge High School Crew team competed in the Virginia Scholastic Rowing Championships on May 12, 2018. SBHS Women's Varsity 4 won the 2nd place silver medal overall and the Men's Junior Varsity 4 won the 3rd place Bronze medal overall. SBHS won the 1st place Overall Women's Division II point Trophy.
The SBHS Women's varsity sprinted up from a possible 4th to catching 1st closing 3 boat lengths of water and being next to Langley with a 3 second gap on the finish line. Langley is one of the highest performing schools in the division. The Men's Jv4 boat qualified by .3 seconds in heats to get to finals and were top 2 in the finals. They had their best sprint of the season closing the gap on 1st and 2nd as they battled for podium places in the finals.
These performances have qualified SBHS for the SRAA National Championships which will be held on Memorial Day weekend in Pennsauken, NJ. These wins are especially significant for SBHS crew team which was started only 7 years ago. This is the first time that SBHS upper boats have won medals at the state championships and the first time that they have had a women’s boat qualify to go to the SRAA National Championships. This marks the last season for its dedicated Head Coach of the past 5 years, Kayla Dykes who is relocating after this season.
