Stone Bridge Rowing battles the elements to ‘Protect the House'
Team perseveres through challenging weather to continue the season's success at the May 29th Darrell Winslow regatta
The Stone Bridge High School rowing team from Ashburn, Virginia endured 50 degree temperatures, driving rain, and intense winds at the Darrell Winslow regatta at Sandy Run Regional Park on the Occoquan Reservoir in Fairfax Station, Virginia, on May 29, 2021. Charged with “protecting the house” this week, SBHS competed in 8 races against 190 other boats from a myriad of schools across the Northern Virginia region. Stone Bridge rowing's athletes are now at 19 ribbons on the season - more ribbons than all of the Loudoun County's rowing teams COMBINED.
The Men’s Junior Varsity 4 and Women’s Novice 4 boats took 1st place; the Men's Junior Varsity 4x and Women’s Novice 8 boats took 2nd place; and the Men's Junior Varsity 8 boat took 3rd place out of all competitors in their classes. The Men's Varsity 4, Women's Varsity 4, and Men’s Novice 8 finished out of the top 3 due to some tough competition from both Mother Nature and the other schools. The SB Rowing Team's next event is the Ted Phoenix regatta at Sandy Run Regional Park on June 5, 2021. More information about the team, details about upcoming regattas, and photos are available on the team’s website.
