Thanksgiving 2019: What's Open, Closed In Ashburn
Train routes, schools and government offices may be impacted by the 2019 Thanksgiving holiday in and around Ashburn.
ASHBURN, VA — While closures are a given for most services on Thanksgiving, Ashburn residents should also be aware of closures on surrounding days like Black Friday. Government offices, libraries and other services will be closed for Thanksgiving and Black Friday, while services like the post office will operate on Black Friday.
Here are the openings and closings to know on and around Thursday, Nov. 28 (Thanksgiving) and Friday, Nov. 29 (Black Friday).
Loudoun County Offices: County offices will close at 1 p.m. Nov. 27 and remain closed through Friday, Nov. 29.

Loudoun County Schools: Schools and division offices will be closed Nov. 27-29.

Post offices and mail: Closed Thanksgiving Day. No mail will be delivered.
County Courts: All Loudoun County courts will be closed Nov. 27-29.
State Courts: Circuit Court, General District Court and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court are closed Nov. 28.

Restaurants Open For Thanksgiving 2019 In Ashburn Area
Loudoun County Transit: Loudoun County Transit will be closed Thanksgiving Day. Service will operate on a significantly reduced schedule on Black Friday. View Thanksgiving Day service changes online.
Metrorail: On Nov. 28, the Metro system will be open 8 a.m.-11 p.m. and operate on a Sunday schedule. Parking will be free at all Metro parking facilities, and off-peak fares will be in effect all day.
Metrobus: Buses will operate on a Sunday schedule on Nov. 28. See bus timetables.
Virginia Railway Express: VRE does not operate on Thanksgiving Day. On Black Friday, VRE will operate on an "S" Schedule, meaning only trains with an "S" above the train number on the schedule will operate. For more information, visit www.vre.org.
Libraries: All Loudoun County Public Library branches will close at 12 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27, and remain closed through Friday, Nov. 29. All branches will reopen at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Historic Sites and Museums: The Loudoun County Visitor's Center is closed Thanksgiving Day.
Trash Collection: Loudoun County does not offer curbside trash pickup. Check with your independent provider about trash collection.
Landfill/Recycling: The Loudoun County Landfill and Recycling Drop-Off Center will be closed Thanksgiving Day. Both will reopen normal hours Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Grocery Stores: Harris Teeter will be open 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Giant Food is open from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.; pharmacy open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Whole Foods hours vary by location — many stores open at 7 a.m. and close as early as 2 p.m. Trader Joe's is closed.
