Three Loudoun County Schools Open to Accommodate Growing Student Population

Cardinal Ridge Elementary School, Rock Ridge High School and Trailside Middle School opened recently as Loudoun schools reach capacity.

Three Loudoun County schools have opened in recent weeks to relieve pressure from nearby schools, many of which were at or above capacity.

Dedications took place last week for Cardinal Ridge Elementary School in Centreville Thursday, Oct. 9 and Rock Ridge High School in Ashburn Friday, Oct. 10. Trailside Middle School in Ashburn had its dedication ceremony Friday, Sept. 26.

The Loudoun County school system taught nearly 30,000 students in 2000 and more than 70,000 last year. Pinebrook, Liberty and Buffalo Trail elementary schools were “bursting at the seams” and some schools had to convert teachers’ lounges and libraries into classrooms and workspaces for teachers, school board member Jeff Morse (Dulles) told The Washington Post.
