Unclaimed Million-Dollar Powerball Ticket Expires in One Month

Time is running out for the holder of a $1 million Virginia Lottery ticket sold in Sterling.

The owner of a Powerball ticket sold in Sterling has just one month left to claim the $1 million lottery prize.

Virginia Lottery officials said the owner of a winning ticket purchased in Sterling for the June 21 Powerball drawing has yet to come forward.

The ticket was purchased at the Getty Mart at 209 East Holly Avenue. The winning numbers from the June drawing were 5-6-37-41-54 and the Powerball number was 26. The winning ticket matched the first five numbers and only missed the Powerball number.

There have been six $1 million winning Powerball tickets in Virginia this year. The ticket purchased in June is the only one that has not been claimed.

By law, winning lottery tickets in Virginia expire 180 days after the drawing. That means after 5 p.m. Dec. 18, the lottery ticket becomes worthless.
