Veterans Day 2019: Ceremony, What's Open, Closed In Ashburn

Veterans Day honors all who have served in the U.S. armed forces. Here's what's open and closed for the federal holiday.

ASHBURN, VA —Veterans Day is Monday, and for anyone wishing to honor those who served in the U.S. armed forces, there will be ceremonies and activities throughout Loudoun County commemorating the holiday. However, the holiday will affect the hours and schedules of various area services and offices.

In Loudoun County, the 15th annual Veterans Day Commemoration will be held Nov. 11 at the Marshall House in Leesburg. The ceremony starts at 10:30 a.m. and features keynote speaker Admiral T. Joseph Lopez, who, after years of active military services, retired from the U.S. Navy in January 1999.

The Marshall House is located at 312 E. Market St.

Closings & Schedule Changes

Loudoun County Offices: All county offices will be closed Nov. 11.

Loudoun County Schools: Schools will be open on Veterans Day.

Post Offices: Closed on Nov. 11. No mail will be delivered.

County Courts: All Loudoun County courts will be closed Nov. 11.

State Courts: Circuit Court, General District Court and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court are closed on Veterans Day.

Loudoun County Transit: Loudoun County Transit will operate a significantly reduced schedule on Veterans Day. View Veterans Day service schedules online

Metrorail: The Metro system will be open 5 a.m.-11:30 p.m. and operate on a Saturday schedule.

Metrobus: Buses will operate on a Saturday and supplemental schedule on Nov. 11. See bus timetables.

Virginia Railway Express: VRE does not operate on Veterans Day. For more information, visit www.vre.org.

Libraries: All Loudoun County Public Library branches are closed Nov. 11.

Recreation and Community Centers: The Claude Moore and Dulles South Recreation Centers will be open normal hours from 5 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Slide, competition and leisure pool hours are subject to change. Please call ahead for the day's hours.

Historic Sites and Museums: The Loudoun County Visitor's Center is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. .

Trash Collection: Loudoun County does not offer curbside trash pickup. Check with your independent provider about trash collection.

Landfill/Recycling: The Loudoun County Landfill and Recycling Drop-Off Center will be open normal hours, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
