ASHBURN, VA — The Washington Football Team plans to welcome fans at FedEx Field for the 2021 NFL season. In a news release on Thursday, the team said it plans to open at full crowd capacity for the next season, which is expected to begin in September.

In 2020, fan attendance was severely limited at the Washington Football Team's home games. Fans were prohibited at all but one of the team's home games last season as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Currently, outdoor venues like FedEx Field are permitted to operate at 50 percent capacity in Maryland. Recently, the stadium hosted a party to celebrate the NFL Draft, and Catholic University's in-person graduation will be held at the stadium this weekend.

In the news release, Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan expected optimism about returning fans to sports stadiums.

"Maryland continues to make steady progress on our health and economic recovery and working with the Washington Football Team to get fans safely back to FedExField is an important part of that process," Hogan said. "To help make that possible, I continue to encourage all eligible Marylanders who have not yet been vaccinated to go out and get your shot."

To find a vaccine, residents can use the VaccineFinder tool to locate a coronavirus vaccine at a pharmacy or healthcare provider near them.
