What's Open, Closed For Memorial Day 2021 In Loudoun County
Memorial Day weekend in Loudoun County features the opening of pools and water parks, a freedom run, and a ceremony at the courthouse.
LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — For some, Memorial Day is the unofficial start of summer, a time for barbecues, pool parties, and yard games. For others, it is a time for somber remembrance, to honor servicemembers who died in the line of duty.
In Loudoun County, residents can celebrate the occasion with a charity "Freedom Run," or a ceremony at the Loudoun County courthouse in Leesburg.
The Ringing In Hope: Salute Our Troops Freedom Runwill offer 10K, 5K, and 1K options on Memorial Day. The longer races will begin at 8 a.m., while the 1K fun run will begin at 9:30 a.m. Runners can choose to participate virtually or in-person. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Boulder Crest Foundation in Bluemont.

The Town of Leesburg will also hold their own annual Memorial Day observance. The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. at the Loudoun County courthouse. Colonel Phil Rusciolelli, who served in the Army for 32 years, will be the event's guest speaker.
Leesburg Mayor Kelly Burk will speak as well before placing a wreath on the county's memorial for fallen soldiers. The event can be livestreamed on Leesburg's Facebook page.

Town of Leesburg government offices: Closed on May 31.
Vaccine Clinics: Vaccine clinics run by the Loudoun County Health Department or the Virginia Department of Health will not be open on Monday, May 31.
State courts: Circuit Court, General District Court and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court are closed May 31.
Loudoun County Public Schools: The school district is closed on May 31.
Department of Motor Vehicles: The state DMV offices are closed on May 31.
Loudoun County Transit: There will be no commuter bus or Metro Connection Bus services on May 31.
Library: The Loudoun County Public Library will be closed on May 31 .

Post offices: Closed on May 31.
Recreation centers: Open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on May 31.
Leesburg Trash Pick-Up: The Town of Leesburg will not collect trash on May 31. Trash that would've been picked up Monday will instead be picked up on Thursday.
