Burke Gets Insane Amount Of Rainfall This Weekend

Burke led the region in rainfall this weekend, and it looks like another flood watch is on the way.

BURKE, VA—You don't need forecasters to tell you this weekend was a wet one for Burke and the rest of the DC area. But if you're curious, the National Weather Service has rounded up rainfall totals for the deluge-like weather on Saturday, July 21.

Preliminary numbers from trained National Weather Service spotters show two to seven inches fell in locations around the DC area. Leading the region was Burke with 7.15 inches. Other notable rainfall happened in Ripley, Md. (7 inches) and Washington Grove, Md. (6.5 inches).

Don't expect the rain to let up after this weekend's performance. The NWS forecast calls for showers and possible thunderstorms every day for the remainder of the week. Burke and other parts of the DC region are under a flash flood watch from noon to late Monday night.

Forecasters expect multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms from the afternoon to the evening. Already saturated grounds and high stream levels from recent rainfall combined with new rainfall could lead to flash flooding. The risk of flash flooding could continue through Wednesday and perhaps beyond.
