Burke Lidl Location Sets Opening Date In Late October
Lidl replaces the Shoppers store that closed at the Rolling Valley Mall shopping center in Burke.

BURKE, VA — Shoppers at the Rolling Valley Mall shopping center in Burke have recently noticed the Lidl store preparing to open. Now the grocery chain has set an opening date: Wednesday, Oct. 28.
The store, located at 9724A Old Keene Mill Road in Burke, will open at 8 a.m. on Oct. 28 following a ribbon cutting ceremony from 7:15 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. The grand opening will include gift cards ranging from $5 to $100 for the first 100 customers. There will also be a chance to enter a contest for a $500 Lidl gift card and other giveaways.
Lidl is a German-based discount grocery chain with 11,200 stores in 32 countries. Its U.S. headquarters is based in Arlington, Virginia. The Burke store is the 12th Lidl store in Northern Virginia.

The store has numerous safety protocols in place during the COVID-19 pandemic, including protective shields at checkout lines, temperature checks for employees, and a commitment to install MERV-13 or higher filtration across all U.S. stores.
Fairfax County supervisors in the local area touted the benefits of Lidl opening in Burke.

"I want to thank Lidl for making another investment in Fairfax County and building their third Fairfax County store in the Burke/West Springfield community,” said Springfield District Supervisor Pat Herrity. "Not only will Lidl bring more than 50 jobs to the area but also its reputation for high quality, low prices and hassle-free shopping that gets you in and out. They also bring their reputation for being environmentally responsible and active members of the communities they are located in."
Braddock District Supervisor James Walkinshaw had a note of appreciation for the grocery store workers who will staff the new store.
"One of the things we have learned during the pandemic is that the list of heroes in our society is much broader than we might have realized and includes the folks who work in grocery stores, ensuring that our families have healthy food to eat. We're excited to welcome Lidl US' new store to Burke and applaud the frontline workers who will make this store a success."
The Lidl store replaces the Shoppers store that closed in Burke. After Shoppers revealed plans to sell and closings of numerous stores late in 2019, Lidl announced it was acquiring the Burke location.
The Burke Lidl store will be open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Sunday.
