Fairfax Co. Sets Absentee Voting Locations For November Election

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA — On Tuesday, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors set 14 satellite absentee voting locations for the November 2020 general election. The number of locations is higher than the nine absentee locations offered for the 2016 presidential election.

Election officials anticipate high turnout for the 2020 presidential election. The decision to increase absentee voting locations comes after a new Virginia law removed the requirement for a voter to submit a reason for absentee voting. Absentee voting starts 45 days before Election Day, which is scheduled on Nov. 3.

The satellite locations will supplement absentee voting at the Fairfax County Government Center's Office of Elections. Early voting at only the Office of Elections starts on Sept. 18.

These satellite locations will be available to voters starting on Oct. 14:

• Great Falls Library 9830 Georgetown Pike, Great Falls
• Herndon Fortnightly Library 768 Center Street, Herndon
• Laurel Hill Golf Club 8701 Laurel Crest Drive, Lorton
• Mason Governmental Center 6507 Columbia Pike, Annandale
• McLean Governmental Center 1437 Balls Hill Road, McLean
• Mount Vernon Governmental Center 2511 Parkers Lane, Alexandria
• North County Governmental Center 1801 Cameron Glen Drive, Reston
• Providence Community Center 3001 Vaden Drive, Fairfax
• Sully Governmental Center 4900 Stonecroft Boulevard, Chantilly
• Thomas Jefferson Library 7415 Arlington Boulevard, Falls Church
• Tysons-Pimmit Regional Library 7584 Leesburg Pike, Falls Church
• West Springfield Governmental Center 6140 Rolling Road, Springfield

Hours have not been set are proposed to be open weekdays from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Fairfax County Electoral Board may adjust the hours later this summer depending on interest in absentee voting by mail.

Under a new state law, Virginians do not have to show a form of photo identification, but an acceptable form of ID is still required. Virginia residents can register to vote or check their status at www.elections.virginia.gov/citizen-portal.
