Five Face Murder Charges in Fairfax County, in Gang-Related Death of MD Teen: Police

Two adults and three teens face murder charges in gang-related death of 15-year old girl from Gaithersburg.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA -- Fairfax County Police detectives have obtained charges for murder against five suspects, two adults and three teenagers, involved in the gang-related death of 15-year-old Damaris Alexandra Reyes Rivas of Gaithersburg, Md., Fairfax County Police announced Thursday afternoon. They also face charges of abduction and gang participation.

The teen's remains were found Saturday near an industrial park in the Springfield area. In an afternoon news conference, Colonel Edwin C. Roessler Jr., chief of the Fairfax County Police Department, said there was "video evidence" that suggested the teen had been murdered in the Lake Accotink area of Fairfax County.

  • Jose Ivan Castillo Rivas, 18, 5800 block of Brunswick Street, Springfield
  • Wilmer A. Sanchez Serrano, 21, of no fixed address
  • A 17-year-old Alexandria-area girl
  • Two 17-year-old boys; one of Annandale, the other of Springfield

Fairfax County Police coordinated with several agencies, to include search teams from around the area, to bring this case to a close, they noted.

All 10 suspects involved in the victim’s abduction and murder are in custody, police said. Two suspects are awaiting extradition to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.
