Food For Neighbors Sets New Record!
Communities make a direct impact on local students.

Food For Neighbors received 16,904 pounds of food during its November 7th Red Bag Program food collection and sorting event. This is a record amount of food for the nonprofit, which is in its fifth year of supporting Northern Virginia students who struggle with hunger. Volunteers will be providing this food to over 1,200 students at 22 schools on a weekly basis.
A participating school’s Director of Student Services is thrilled with the community response. “I can’t say thank you enough for doing all this! Just the program itself is amazing and seeing all that food come in this weekend – I couldn’t believe how much we got!!! The holiday meal support too just puts it over the top. I am beyond grateful for our collaboration and what our students get from all your hard work.”
Food For Neighbors relies heavily on volunteers and partners to complete this important service. During the November 7th event, 1,071 community members donated shelf-stable, nutritious food, and hundreds collected and sorted this food at five different locations in Fairfax and Loudoun counties. Among these volunteers were representatives of partnering organizations, who also provide much-needed financial assistance that keeps the nonprofit running smoothly.

Karen Joseph, co-founder of Food For Neighbors, greatly appreciates the ongoing support. “There is grave food insecurity in our area,” shared Joseph. “Thanks to the steadfast help of our volunteers and partners, our program is able to grow to meet this need.”
