Lake Braddock Football Aces Another Test

After overtime win Friday over West Potomac, Bruins' remaining schedule more forgiving until Nov. 4 tilt at South County

BURKE, VA — With its season nearing the halfway point and consecutive wins against two of the three most difficult opponents on the schedule, unbeaten Lake Braddock's football team certainly could be forgiven for suddenly looking ahead to Nov. 4.

That's when it visits nemesis South County, which beat the previously undefeated Bruins 33-30 in last year's regular-season finale.

After all, Lake Braddock beat its next five opponents — Centreville, T.C. Williams, W.T. Woodson, West Springfield and Mount Vernon — by an average of 41 points last season. T.C. Williams came the closest, losing by 21 points.

Even so, the Bruins needed overtime this past Friday to squeak past West Potomac 24-21 on Jack Rawlins' 23-yard field goal.

University of Virginia recruit Lamont Atkins, as usual, led Lake Braddock with 194 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 22 attempts.
