Lake Braddock's Season Ends Abruptly With Playoff Loss to South Lakes

The Bruins dropped from No. 5 to No. 13 in the latest Washington Post area prep football rankings after the 40-22 home setback.

BURKE, VA — Now that Lake Braddock's season is complete, the result of Saturday's not-as-close-as-it-looks 40-22 home loss against South Lakes in the 6A North Region semifinals, the Bruins are going to have some gaping holes to fill before resuming another championship quest next fall.

Gone will be their two most dynamic players, running back Lamont Atkins and two-way standout Ibrahim Mansaray.

As it is, Lake Braddock wrapped up its 2016 campaign 11-2 while South Lakes (12-1) will meet Westfield for the North Region championship this weekend.

Defense spurred the Seahawks, limiting Atkins — bound for the University of Virginia — to just 19 yards on 12 carries.

The Bruins fell from No. 5 to No. 13 in the just-released Washington Post area prep football rankings while South Lakes moved up five spots from No. 10.
