Meeting To Detail Fairfax County Parkway Widening
VDOT will hold a meeting on widening part of the parkway from four to six lanes and other improvements.

The Virginia Department of Transportation will detail future Fairfax County Parkway widening and other improvements at a public meeting Monday, Jan. 7 from 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. at Robinson Secondary School, 5035 Sideburn Road, Fairfax. Public comments are being accepted through Jan. 22.
The widening would apply to five miles of the Fairfax County Parkway between Lee Highway and Ox Road. This section of the parkway would increase from four to six lanes. The other highlight of the project is a new interchange at Popes Head Road and a future extension of Shirley Gate Road.
VDOT will also improve the interchange with Route 123, Fairfax County Parkway/Burke Centre Parkway intersection and the Fairfax County Parkway Trail.

The project is currently in the design phase with approval slated for mid 2019. Construction would happen in two parts; the first phase, the Popes Head Road and Shirley Gate Road interchange, could begin as early as late 2019. The start of the Fairfax County Parkway widening construction is dependent on future funding availability.
The estimated project cost is $195 million. It will be funded through federal, state and local funds, including Smart Scale and Northern Virginia Transportation Authority funding.
