Northern Virginia Weather: Great Weather on the Horizon. . .No, Really

After several days of rain and, most recently high winds, the area soon will get a welcome break, according to the National Weather Service.

STERLING, VA — Several days of chilly rain and, most recently, damaging wind are about to be replaced with an extended run of sunshine, according to the National Weather Service.

One more evening of rain, however, is projected for the area before giving way to mostly cloudy skies on Tuesday.

But check out Wednesday-Friday: Mostly sunny with highs in the 50s and later the 40s.

Here's the latest forecast from the area arm of the National Weather Service:

Tonight: Rain likely, mainly after 7pm. Cloudy, with a low around 39. North wind 13 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Tuesday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 48. Northwest wind around 16 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph.

Tuesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 36. Northwest wind 5 to 14 mph.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 58. South wind 5 to 9 mph.

Wednesday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 44.

Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 51.

Thursday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 34.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 42.
