Northern Virginia Weather: Sun Takes Backseat to Wind Gusts

STERLING, VA — If you don't particularly mind a dash of wind gusts here and a sprinkle of wind gusts there to go with your sunshine, Friday certainly should be to your liking, according to the area arm of the National Weather Service.

Following a Thursday highlighted both by sun and high winds, the latter of which prompted a weather advisory of gusts approaching 50 mph, things are expected to finally calm down tonight before somewhat resuming the next morning in a considerably less violent way.

Friday should be chillier than of late, with highs in the mid-40s and occasional wind gusts up to 24 mph.

Saturday and Sunday? Lots of sun but quasi-cold.

Here's the latest day-by-day forecast through the weekend (with no rain in sight):

Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around 33. West wind 10 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 36 mph.

Friday: Partly sunny, with a high near 45. West wind 10 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph.

Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 29. West wind 8 to 13 mph.

Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 43. West wind 7 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 29.

Sunday: Partly sunny, with a high near 40.

Sunday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 26.

Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 37.
