Northern Virginia Weather: Weekend Could Be a Washout

STERLING, VA — To call this coming weekend a washout more or less nails what's likely for Saturday and Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.

The threat of rain will be ever present, and high temperatures aren't expected to exceed 50 degrees.

Saturday begins will drizzle and fog to set the tone for the weekend, with Sunday expected to receive the most rain.

Not until Tuesday will sunshine hold its own against the clouds.

Here's the latest forecast from the area arm of the National Weather Service:

Tonight: Patchy drizzle and fog. Cloudy, with a low around 42. South wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.

Saturday: Patchy drizzle and fog before 10am. Cloudy, with a high near 52. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph in the afternoon.

Saturday Night: A chance of rain. Cloudy, with a low around 47. East wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Sunday: Rain. High near 51. East wind 5 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

Sunday Night: Rain. Low around 45. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

Monday: Rain. High near 47. Chance of precipitation is 90%.

Monday Night: Rain likely. Cloudy, with a low around 39. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Tuesday: Partly sunny, with a high near 50.

Tuesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 37.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 55.
