Positive Coronavirus Tests Flat Statewide, Down In Eastern VA
No new deaths were reported to the Virginia Department of Health on Monday after 41 deaths were added to the total on Saturday.
VIRGINIA — An additional 1,324 coronavirus cases were reported Monday in Virginia while the positive rate of tests overall remains flat. Cumulative cases are up to 93,106, while the 2,218 deaths remained the same from Sunday to Monday.
The 7-day average of new cases has seen a slight decline within the last week. As of Monday, the 7-day average of new cases was 1,005, compared to 546 a month ago on July 3. The average increased in much of July before beginning to fall again after reaching 1,100 cases on July 27.
The number of new deaths reflects daily reports to the Virginia Department of Health, not the actual date on a death certificate. VDH is also keeping track of deaths by date, but that data may be incomplete for recent weeks. The daily reports have varied; no deaths were reported on Monday, three were reported on Sunday and 41 were reported on Saturday.

As of Sunday, 1,151,604 nasal swab tests have been completed across Virginia, an increase of 15,036 from Saturday. The statewide 7-day average of positive nasal swab tests was 7.1 percent on July 30 and has been in the 7-percent range for much of July.
In the northern region, the average fell from about 8 percent at the start of July to the current 5.9 percent. The eastern region's positive average has fallen to 9.9 percent after reaching a monthly peak of 12.2 percent on July 18.

Across Virginia, there were 1,205 COVID-19 patients as of Monday, up from 1,172 on Sunday. The breakdown of patients by health region was 497 in the eastern region, 236 in the northern region, 215 in the central region, 171 in the southwest region and 86 in the northwest region.
The COVID-19 hospitalizations include 151 on ventilators and 271 in the intensive care units, according to the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association. Among all hospital patients, ventilator use stands at 22 percent, and ICU occupancy is at 76 percent. The 2019 average for ICU occupancy was 67 percent.
No hospitals report difficulty obtaining personal protective equipment or other medical supplies in the next 72 hours.

- Fairfax County: 15,907 cases, 1,903 hospitalizations, 523 deaths; increase of 139 cases and one hospitalization
- Fairfax City: 82 cases, 11 hospitalizations, seven deaths; increase of one case
- Falls Church: 59 cases, 10 hospitalizations, six deaths; no change
- Loudoun County: 5,059 cases, 339 hospitalizations, 112 deaths; increase of 25 cases and three hospitalizations
- Manassas: 1,612 cases, 118 hospitalizations, 20 deaths; increase of three cases
- Manassas Park: 500 cases, 50 hospitalizations, seven deaths; no change
- Prince William County: 8,988 cases, 787 hospitalizations, 173 deaths; increase of 81 cases, four hospitalizations and one death
- Fredericksburg: 368 cases, 42 hospitalizations, two deaths; increase of 10 cases and one hospitalization
- Spotsylvania County: 1,357 cases, 93 hospitalizations, 34 deaths; increase of 25 cases, one death removed
