Positive Rate Of Coronavirus Tests Below 7 Percent In Virginia
After recent increases, the positive rates in the southwest and northwest regions have improved.
VIRGINIA — The Virginia Department of Health reported 1,101 new coronavirus cases on Thursday, a difference from the 845 cases on Wednesday. Cumulative case totals are at 137,460 cases, 2,920 deaths and 10,464 hospitalizations. Statewide, there have been 1,822,012 PCR tests completed, up 22,161 from Wednesday.
The 7-day moving average of positive PCR tests fell below 7 percent as of Sept. 12. The latest rate was 6.7 percent on Sept. 13. The northern region's average has been relatively stable at 6.7 percent, but there have been changes in other regions. The southwest region's average rose to 11 percent earlier in September but now stands at 7.5 percent. The northwest region, while not reaching the 19.8 peak of April, had an average of 9.6 percent on Sept. 6. The latest average for the region was down to 6.4 percent.
The eastern region has also seen a lower average after increases in July, with the latest being 6.1 percent. The central region's average stands at 7.5 percent.

The 1,101 new cases on Thursday included 254 in the northwest region, 242 in the northern region, 214 in the southwest region, 210 in the eastern region, and 181 in the central region. Statewide, the 7-day average of new cases is 991.
COVID-19 hospitalizations stand at 1,027 statewide as of Wednesday. The 7-day average for hospitalization in the state is 1,038. According to the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association, there were 103 COVID-19 patients on ventilators and 212 in the intensive care units as of Wednesday.

COVID-19 hospitalizations fell below 1,000 for the second time since July 9. The 995 hospitalizations include 263 in the eastern region, 255 in the central region, 240 in the northern region, 149 in the southwest region and 88 in the northwest region. Statewide, 225 COVID-19 patients are in the intensive care units and 109 are on ventilators, according to the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association.
Ventilator use among all Virginia hospital patients is at 20 percent, while ICU occupancy is at 80 percent. The average ICU occupancy was 67 percent in 2019. One hospital is reporting difficulty obtaining personal protective equipment in the next 72 hours.

- Fairfax City: 133 cases, 13 hospitalizations, seven deaths; increase of one case
- Falls Church: 66 cases, 10 hospitalizations, six deaths; increase of one case and one hospitalization
- Loudoun County: 6,567 cases, 420 hospitalizations, 120 deaths; increase of 44 cases, three hospitalizations, and one death
- Manassas: 1,874 cases, 127 hospitalizations, 24 deaths; increase of five cases
- Manassas Park: 599 cases, 55 hospitalizations, eight deaths; increase of one case
- Prince William County: 11,883 cases, 894 hospitalizations, 196 deaths; increase of 73 cases and three hospitalizations
- Fredericksburg: 523 cases, 49 hospitalizations, five deaths; increase of five cases
- Spotsylvania County: 2,060 cases, 130 hospitalizations, 42 deaths; increase of 19 cases, one death removed
