Safeway said it has approximately 1,000 immediate openings at locations in Virginia, Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Delaware.
BURKE, VA — With widespread job losses expected as nonessential recreation and entertainment businesses as well as dine-in areas have been directed to close in Virginia, other sectors are stepping up hiring.
Grocery store chain Safeway said Wednesday it has 1,000 immediate openings at locations in Maryland, Washington, D.C., Virginia, and Delaware. Opportunities include positions in deli, bakery, produce, customer service, delivery and fuel stations.
"Grocery stores are the cornerstone of the community and are deemed an essential service," said Tom Lofland, Safeway Eastern Division president, in a statement. "If your job has been impacted by COVID-19, we are offering permanent or temporary employment that can help bridge the gap."
