With the caucus to nominate the Democratic candidate in the Fairfax County Sheriff special election right around the corner, local residents are showing their support.
Farid Shammas, owner of Shammas Jewelers in Burke Town Plaza, is supporting Mark Sites in the July 23 caucus. Sites, a veteran of the sheriff's office, is running against Stacey Kincaid for the nomination. They'll discuss their views and ideas for the position in a July 20 forum.
Shammas said he was supporting Sites for his experience on the Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board and his time with the sheriff's office.
"The experience and the talent that he has is really what directed me," Shammas told Patch. "I heard he's a good man and a family man."
